Your question is so vague, it’s difficult to give any answer. Instead I’ll ask some questions to help you make yours make sense. What VPN’s exactly, OpenVPN, IPsec, pptp? I use a VPN to connect to work. Lately I cannot connect at all. I have a Comcast Netgear CG30000DCR modem gateway. In looking over the forums, there seems to be a lot of problems with this particular modem. My VPN IT guys at work say it is not on their end. something with Comcast is blocking it and not letting me connect. IT guy can login from his computer using my rdp, so the .rdp isn't the problem, and the office computer is on and accepting what it thinks is me. I can open up a hotspot on my phone, connect my desktop via that wifi and can connect to the office without a problem.
